What it is
An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw where a tooth is missing. Once it has bonded with the bone, a crown is attached on top. It looks, feels and works like your own tooth, and does not rely on the teeth either side.
What to expect
-
A planning visit with a 3D scan to check bone and plan the exact position. You get a fixed quote and a timeline.
-
Placement is a single appointment under local anaesthetic, often with sedation if you prefer. Most people are back at work the next day.
-
Three to four months of healing while the implant bonds to the bone. A temporary tooth can be worn in the meantime.
-
The final crown is scanned, made and fitted over two short visits.
Common questions
Does it hurt?
The procedure itself is numb. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days, usually managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
How much does an implant cost?
A single implant with crown is from $4,200 all-in, with the full price fixed at the planning stage. Interest-free plans are available.
Am I a candidate?
Most healthy adults are. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and some medications affect healing. Thin bone can often be built up first. The 3D scan tells us for sure.
