What it is
Whitening lifts stains from tea, red wine, your morning cup and age to give you a brighter, natural-looking smile. Done under a dentist it is safe for your enamel and gums, which is not always true of products bought online.
What to expect
-
A check first. Whitening only works on healthy, clean teeth, so we treat any decay and do a clean before we start.
-
Take-home: custom trays are made from a scan of your teeth, and you wear the gel for an hour a day for ten to fourteen days.
-
In-chair: a stronger gel applied over about ninety minutes, with your gums protected. Results the same day.
-
Some temporary sensitivity is normal. We give you a desensitising gel and advice on what to eat for the first 48 hours.
Common questions
How white will my teeth get?
Most people lighten by several shades. We show you a shade guide before and after. Results depend on the cause of the staining, and we will tell you honestly what to expect.
Does it work on crowns or veneers?
No. Whitening only changes natural tooth. If you have visible crowns or veneers we plan around that so everything still matches.
How long do results last?
One to three years, depending on your habits. Take-home trays make it easy to top up for a night or two whenever you like.
