  1. 1

    Park at the trailhead

Follow signs for Greywood Forest and park at the Hollow Lane trailhead car park. If you use what3words, the gate is at ///moss.lantern.quiet.

  2. 2

Take the gravel path from the noticeboard

Go through the kissing gate by the noticeboard and keep to the wide gravel path. Ignore the first turning on the left, which goes to the pond.

  3. 3

    Follow the fern waymarkers

Small wooden posts with a green fern mark the way. It is about ten minutes at an ordinary pace, a little more with a pushchair or small legs.

  4. 4

    The last 200 metres

The path narrows and climbs gently over roots and a few shallow steps. It is not step-free. If that is a problem, ring ahead and someone will meet you at the gate with the quad bike and trailer.

  5. 5

    Look for the chimney

You will smell the stove before you see the cabin. The door is round the side, under the porch. Boots can stay on.

What to bring

It is a wood, not a high street

  • Layers. It is a few degrees cooler under the trees than in the car park, even in July.
  • A torch in winter. The path is unlit and it is properly dark by half past four.
  • A lead for the dog on the last stretch, where the path meets the deer fence.
  • A bag for anything you carry in. There are no bins on the trail.
  • Cash is not needed. Card and phone payments work fine, even when the signal does not.
Good to know

Small print, kindly meant

  • No wifi, on purpose
  • Wood stove lit from October
  • Dogs welcome inside
  • Walking boots fine
  • Card and phone payments
  • Last 200 m not step-free, ask us
